Potions! WOrkshop
1/22/23
Who knew experimenting with chemical reactions could be so fun! We performed 4 demonstrations/hands-on experiments: Magic Milk, Lemon Volcanoes, Wizard's Brew, and Blast-Off Rockets! The kids observed the cool interaction between milk and dish soap, ignited chemical reactions between baking soda and vinegar, and concocted many beautiful colors! We explained the science of chemical reactions and the molecular structures of basic liquids through short videos and explanations. The materials and instructions of each experiment:

Here comes the last workshop of the year 2022! We performed 4 demonstrations/hands-on experiments: Popsicle Stick Chain Reaction, Exploding Ninja Stars, Karate Chop (showing inertia), and Stomp Rockets! The kids learned about the potential and kinetic energy in bending popsicle sticks, became kung fu masters as they experimented with inertia, and made their very own mini stomp rockets. We explained the science of potential/kinetic energy and Newton’s Laws with the help of short videos and short explanations. The materials and instructions of each experiment:

Crazy Liquids! WOrkshop
12/4/22
Welcome to our second workshop! We performed four hands-on experiments: Diffusing Skittles, Magic Soap and Pepper, Lava Lamps, and a bonus Elephant Toothpaste! The kids each created their own colorful patterns through the skittle diffusion, experimented with the cool relationship between dish soap and water, constructed and triggered their very own lava lamps, and volunteered to perform specific steps in the elephant toothpaste eruption. Furthermore, we explained the science of diffusion, surface tension, and density that took place in these experiments. The materials and instructions of each experiment:

Our first workshop kicked off with a start! We performed two hands-on experiments: Elephant Toothpaste and Exploding Pop Rockets. The kids individually volunteered to perform specific steps in the elephant toothpaste eruption, as well as created and launched their very own pop rockets. In addition, we explained the science of chemical reactions, catalysts, and surface area that took place in these experiments. The materials and instructions of each experiment:

New Gen Scientists begins with a pair of bright, dedicated elementary schoolers and two high school girls, exploring science together once a week in our own backyard. We watched explosions of elephant toothpaste, swung buckets to learn centripetal force, hit stacks of cards to master the concept of inertia, and listened to playful stories to get to know each other a little better.
